Mad Max Poster Original Media Invitation Handbill Ulta Rare 1979
About This Poster: This poster art was used as a 'Media Invitation' handbill poster as the movie was relatively unknown at the time. George Miller (Director) mailed these handbill posters to Journalists at media outlets shortly after the film first screened in the July of 1979, along with a letter, inviting them to screenings, often in suburban theatres in Sydney. They were part of a slightly bigger poster that had a blank area for screening details below the artwork, but Miller trimmed that off for mailing these that became a makeshift handbill. What makes this poster special is its artwork. This poster’s artwork is different to the first release mauve coloured one as the one here has Mel’s bloodied hand fully exposed as are his legs down to his knees. Where as the mauve one (that would be on public display) has his bloodied hand mostly hidden by the hand on the steering wheel for censorship reasons possibly. Finally the top credits are postioned differently to where they are on the mauve poster. Therefore, this difference in artwork for a country of origin poster like Mad Max is a must have for any serious Mad Max collector.
