USA Title Lobby Card 11x14 Original.The Gift of Love is a 1958 American CinemaScope drama romance film directed by Jean Negulesco and starring Lauren Bacall, Robert Stack and Lorene Greene. The film's screenplay was based on the short story "The Little Horse" by Nelia Gardner White, originally published in a 1944 issue of Good Housekeeping, and previously made into the film Sentimental Journey (1946), with John Payne and Maureen O'Hara. The storyline was as follows: Physicist Bill Beck meets and marries a doctor's receptionist Julie. Five happy years later, she develops a heart condition. Afraid of leaving Bill alone by her premature demise, Julie adopts an orphan, Hitty. It is an uphill battle forging a relationship between the equally self-absorbed physicist and child: will she have time?
