For Whom the Bell Tolls is a 1943 American film produced and directed by Sam Wood and starring Gary Cooper, Ingrid Bergman, Akim Tamiroff, and Joseph Calleia. Written by Dudley Nichols and based on the novel For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway. This 'A' style movie poster artwork was produced by the famous 'Richardson Studio' renowned for the unique and striking graphic movie poster art. There were two styles of art printed for this title. Style A was printed slightly off centre with a larger border on the right hand side and in a narrow format (to save paper during the war years when it was released). It is probably one of the best examples of the hand litho process. Rarely does this poster art become available.
