The Blu-ray format has received broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's DVD format. All studios will now distribute this new DVD format  and with the demise of HD this format is now the winner in the HD war. However, the two formats (Blu-ray and standard DVD) will most likely co-exist for quite some time until HDTV’s become more widespread and until the movie studios feel they have made enough money out of the standard DVD format.
